Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. You have uploaded a couple of images claiming fairuse. (Image:Alyson kiperman.jpg, Image:Alison MacInnis.jpg). [edit] Rio de Janeiro Metro

Thanks for translating Rio de Janeiro Metro! I took the liberty of cleaning up the article a little bit, so please take a look at it to ensure that I didn't inadvertantly change the meaning of anything (especially the paragraph starting with "In order to allow"). I'd love to help with the work of moving stuff from the portuguese encyclopedia over here, but I'm no portuguese speaker, so for now I'll have to be content with working on the articles that others translate. Let me know if I can help out with anything else! --Spangineer (háblame) 04:08, July 17, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Final Fantasy N64 AfD

Carioca, I noticed your vote over the Final Fantasy N64 articles for deletion vote. I wasn't sure if you were aware of this, but the article in question is actually redundant. The original article, Final Fantasy SGI demo, has been around for a number of months, and is better cited and researched (IMO, of course). I was wondering if I could ask you to consider changing your "keep" vote to "merge"? If not, I apologize for bothering you. – Seancdaug 02:42, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Paraguayan Football

Thanks for your contributions in Paraguayan Football, especially the Liga Paraguaya article. That inspired me to do some work and create articles for some of the football teams in Paraguay ;) Do you think it will be a good idea to change (or rather 'move') the name of the article from "Liga Paraguaya" to "Liga Paraguaya: División Profesional"? That way I can create another article called "Liga Paraguaya: División Intermedia" (which is the second division) and add the list of winners and other stuff. ---Bruno18 01:13, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Flamengo's supporters

Hi. Thank you for your message. I did revert that edit, due to a lack of a source for what was being written. As you probably know, when it comes to certain aspects of certain Brazilian football clubs, passionate opinions cloud people's judgement. I checked the link you provided, it was a Terra subpage (I believe) quoting a few researches on club supporters. The problem I saw was that, although some respectable survey firms were named, no parameters were being given — for instance, when it says that X people were surveyed in Y cities, and that 16% of those people declared themselves to be Flamengo supporters, we still don't know the distribution of the survey (as in, maybe 60% of the people asked were from Rio de Janeiro, which would not make that 16% a real national number). I find it somewhat troublesome to add stuff like that piece of information that the anon was trying to add. Possibly, it would be safe to state, for instance, that Flamengo has the largest (or one of the largest) fan base in the country (as far as an individual club is concerned); but it's quite different if we start saying that 40 million people in Brazil are Flamengo fans, or that 20% of the country are Flamengo fans. There simply appears to be no serious, nation-wide, comprehensive survey that would be able to determine that with a satisfactory degree of certainty (and there will probably never be, since this would cost a fortune, and the topic is...well, just not important enough) — and, on a personal note, I don't think that numbers like that would ever be confirmed; it just sounds too far-fetched (and I am a Flamengo fan). I feel we need to be really conservative in terms of what kind of information should go in this or any other articles pertaining to Brazilian football clubs. It's just unbelievable the stuff some people will try to sneak in.
Btw, thank you for all the good work you've been doing to keep our articles on the theme up to specs! Regards, Redux 18:41, 18 November 2005 (UTC)

Hi again. Indeed, one of the largest seems the best way to go. It's always best to steer away from polemical statements that end up causing revert wars (or endless discussions on the talk page). Regards, Redux 16:09, 20 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] São Francisco River title

Take a look at the title for the São Francisco River, an article which I have worked on recently. The problem is that the title is "Rio São Francisco", when the name in English is São Francisco River, a name used in major encyclopedias. Since so far the only name of a river that I have found using the Portuguese name is this one I feel it should be changed to conform with the rest of Wikipedia. Can you do that or contact someone who can? I don't know who the administrator of this section is. Vogensen 13:53, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

P.S. I will be working on articles about Brazilian rivers and towns starting with the Goiás, Minas Gerais area, an area which I know well. Many articles don't exist or are only stubs. Feel free to take a look and make suggestions. Vogensen 13:56, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

Hey Carioca. I have just finished Catalão, Goiás. What incredible development!! I love writing these articles because I learn at the same time. Take a look and make any corrections you think might improve the article. I want to do Luziânia, a city that I knew well when I lived in Brasília but there is almost nothing available on the Net. Likewise with Cristalina. The latter has a site from the Prefeitura but none of the links work. If you have anything try to write the articles. Vogensen 21:45, 4 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Rio Grande article

I wrote a brief article on the Grande River (Rio Grande in Portuguese) and someone re-directed it to Rio Grande (Paraná). This is confusing since the name of the river is Grande not Rio Grande. It is Rio Grande if we are doing the Portuguese section. And the river is certainly not in the state of Paraná as the name in parentheses implies. Who do we talk to to explain the problem? Hi, Carioca,

How did you find out about this book? (I am an American Dutchman, but had never heard about it). It was interesting translating it. Dutch-Bostonian 03:57, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
I don't know how Carioca found it, but I (a Dutchman) have the book at hand since 1994, and give it as a present to my football-winning nephews, and enjoyed every anecdote August Willemsen wrote. Nowadays I've switched to Dante, and doing details about Garrincha. Most wonderful moment in this was when I had both books in sight, and saw the allusion by title. Sure should be translated into English. Have a nice World Cup tournament ;-). -DePiep 18:37, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Project

Hi Carioca. I'm considering a project related to the upcoming 2006 FIFA World Cup. In a system similar to the country-specific articles created for the Olympics, I'm considering the creation of an article titled Brazil at the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Even though the competition has not yet started, I was thinking that work could already start: we can list the results for the South American Qualifying stage, as well as any matches played in preparation specifically for the World Cup, Tivia facts, etc. Once Parreira drafts the team, we can list it there, plus all the detailed work to be done as the competition progresses. I'll be contacting other Brazilian users who might be interested in joining this effort as well. Maybe this will even encourage others to do a similar job for other countries (I'm not aware that any such project is underway currently). Redux 19:41, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

Excellent tip! There's a lot of stuff on that article that we'll be able to use! I guess the first step will be to transwiki the contents of the article from the pt.wp. Thanks a lot, Carioca! Redux 21:32, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandal

We've got to do something about vandal 170.66.1.155 (talkcontribslogsblock userblock log). His IP has to be blocked. Lesfer (talk) 21:02, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi Carioca. Thanks for bringing the vandal to attention. According to the Whois querry, this IP is registered to Banco do Brasil S.A., which means a number of people may have access to it. However, the "vandalism spree" seems to have lasted roughly 48 hours, according to the IP's list of contributions, which would indicate that, at least within that period of time, it is quite likely that the same person was controlling the IP. So here's what I'll do: I'll keep an eye out for this IP, and if that person returns to vandalizing again (which is never certain when it comes to shared IPs), I will immediately enforce a 48-hour block, and if the IP returns to vandalizing immediately after the block expires, I will impose a longer block, as it will have become clear that the IP is being used only to vandalize Wikipedia. In fact, if you see any pattern of editing that would seem to indicate that the same individual may be vandalizing under a different IP, please let me know, and I will block both this 170... IP and the new one. Thanks, Redux 14:02, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Major football rivalries

Hi there. I'm sure you've noticed that the Major football rivalries article has perhaps a little bit too many Brazilian derbies. I don't know if you've seen the talk page discussion regarding the actual parameters to consider an rivalry for inclusion in the article, but it seams clear to me that having three loca derbies fom Brazil, some of questioned importance, seams an exageration in comparison of having only one from other very important leagues such as the Spanish and Italian. Since the article's title referrs to Major rivalries, I would like you to trim out the article to avoid it from becoming an extensive list of local derbies in medium international importance. I know its a hard thing to ask, but sooner or later it will be necesary. Also, you can contribute to the discussion regarding parameters to consider a rivalry a Major one or not. Thank you very much, Mariano(t/c) 08:56, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your opinion wanted

Hi, Carioca. I noticed you commented the first time the List of Perfect 10 models was nominated for deletion, saying that it was a perfectly reasonable list. Now the claim is that one of the models (un-named) doesn't want to be listed, and rather than address whether or not she should be individually removed from it, the ENTIRE entry is up for deletion again. This reasoning would allow for the pre-emptive deletion of any model list at any time, which I find unreasonable. The other claim is that almost none of the models listed are notable, even though over 40 have Wikipedia entries. The current AfD can be found here Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Perfect 10 models (second nomination) --Alsayid 23:47, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you

Hi there, Carioca. I wanted to thank you, not only for your support in my RfB, which I appreciate greatly, but also for the several times you updated the tally. Thank you so much :) Cheers, Redux 21:15, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Libya national football team

Hi, you seem to be good at making the football jersey patterns. Please could you help me with the Libya national football team page. I want to put two dark patches on the side. The away jersey is not pure white but actually looks like this. The home is the same design but different colours like this. Please if you know how, could you do it and upload it onto the Libya national football team page. --Jaw101ie 01:52, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Yes the image is great, Thanks a lot, --Jaw101ie 12:01, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi, the design is perfect but the colour is wrong. Both the kits are light blue! The home kit jersey is totally green (like the current arm colour) with black sides, and the away is totally white with green sides, like the image you sent me, [2].

Thank you so much, I feel bad for you because I'm such a perfectionist. The away shirt is perfect!

If you have time please try to make the colour of the green in the home shirt a little lighter so that it will be the same colour as the shorts and socks as it should be. Thank you --Jaw101ie 17:16, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Help

Can you go here http://www.cruzeiro.com.br/cruzeiro/clube/diretoria/ and click on the first president there and translate what it says about him. I'm trying to organize more information on him but my portugese is not that good, and I was hoping yours was. Thank you. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Abreuzinho (talkcontribs) .

Thanks for the translation it made the article seem a lot informative, thanks once again. Abreuzinho 12:02, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] South American football league systems

Hi, I just got interested in how interconnected league systems work in different football leagues around the world, would you like to add some more info on South American leagues, maybe? The article I'm talking about is League system. The Brazilian system appears especially intriguing as there are overlapping national and state league systems. It would be nice to have a comprehensive overview of how the whole system works. As of now, I only have a link to Campeonato Brasileiro, which already begs the question how exactly the qualification for Série C would work. Also regarding the Brazilian Football State Championships, are there more like tournaments are or are they akin to leagues? Is any club eligible to participate as long as they are from the respective state, or are there several (interconnected?) categories?

Also, I was discussing with User:Bruno18 about cup competitions, in the course of which the question arose how exactly the participants of the Copa do Brasil are decided. Please compare Bruno18's and my talk page for that. Crix 17:46, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Info

Hey, Carioca, do you know where I can find information on president (chairman) of football club's? Like birth dates, championships won, etc. I've been really working hard on Cruzeiro Esporte Clube article and a lot of other South American based teams article's, and it has been extremely hard geting information on Cruzeiro's presidents, so I was wondering if you know any sites that have info on club presidents? Thanks Abreuzinho 22:09, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Translation

Hello, I see that you speak Portugese at a high level, sadly I do not. So I was wondering if you could do your best to get the best translation from this article [3]. This article contains information on the Brazilian football club Cruzeiro EC, one of my curent/future projects (I do a lot of projects with football articles). Please try to translate it to the best extent, you can send me the translated version via e-mail (jpsee@sbcglobal.net). Once you send it to me, me and the guys will organise it and put the information into the article. Hopefully you can help, if you can't just tell me otherwise. I was hoping if you could do it, that you can get it done in a week or a week and 1/2 (7-11 days). Thanks GADA 17:50, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Survey

Hey Carioca, do you know where I might get an up-to-date 2006 survey that tells how many fans each club in Brazil have? Thanks Abreuzinho 22:08, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Braziguayans

Hey, you mentioned that this term has some merit to it in the Portugese Wikipedia, I was hoping you could see if there are any reliable sources for the numbers and description stated in the English article. Thanks. BigNate37T·C 22:43, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi, according to Folha de São Paulo (which is an important Brazilian newspaper), there are 455 thousand Braziguayans (check this link), as of 2001. According to Revista do Mercosul (or Mercosur Magazine), which used the Catholic Church as a source, in 1981, the Brazilian population in Paraguay (approximately 300 thousand people at the time) were about 10% of the country's population. In San Alberto de Mbaracayú city, approximately 80% of its 23 thousand inhabitants are of Brazilian ancestry. Regards, Carioca 23:36, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Copa Rio

Hi there! I've seen this article 1951 World Club Cup - Copa Rio. FIFA has recognized Copa Rio as a World Club Cup? I can't find any news about it. If this is pure supporter opinion, the article should be renamed to 1951 Copa Rio and unrelated to any World Club Cup article.
Copa Rio sounds much more like friendly tournaments as Tereza Herrera and Ramón de Carranza. Cheers —Lesfer (t/c/@) 17:25, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sociedade Esportiva Matsubara

Thank you for your message! It was very instructive to see the edits and additions you made. There's only one problem - the statement that "Much of the content of this article comes from the equivalent Japanese-language Wikipedia article" is now untrue! But I'll put this on any other articles I do. Thanks. Grgcox 09:39, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vaccine Revolt

Hi. I recently created Vaccine Revolt, based on a translation of Portuguese Wikipedia http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revolta_da_Vacina , which reads, "O prefeito pôs em prática uma ampla reforma urbana, que ficou conhecida como bota abaixo, em razão das demolições dos velhos prédios e cortiços..." -- I have been unable to come up with a succinct English equivalent of "bota abaixo."
Do you have any ideas? Thanks -- Writtenonsand 16:21, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Okay, thanks. -- Writtenonsand 18:09, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Deco

Hi Carioca, actually this whole mess spread from wrong news in the past by some major media outlet.

http://www.footballdatabase.com/index.php?page=player&Id=1350&b=true&pn=Anderson_Luís_de_Souza

Instead of Corinthians Paulista, they identified it as Corinthians Alagoano. He played two games for Corinthians in the Brazilian League in 1996 and was champion of a Junior competition playing for the same team.

I found this story, not sure how good it is, but matches to what I read before: story Stellatomailing 20:58, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi Carioca, the link you've just removed from Grêmio's wiki page, under the allegation of "linkspam", seems to lead to an excellent website and source of information about the club in English. Perhaps we might reconsider the deletion. Regards Lomibz 04:15, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cat Piping

Looks like you're a dedicated football-bio editor, which is great thing. I've re-piped Cats on, i think, 7 of these, and at a glance they may all reverse your work. (During that glance, just made, i see you've done more since me, which is great since i have no confidence in my judgement about what's a Brazilian surname!) Only in one place do i recall explicitly saying that a bio title w/ both given and surname precludes piping by given name, which was the principle i was operating on. (I don't mean to express any opinion about these bios as to what the titles should be; my position is about piping and titles being consistent.) I'm laying off looking for bad piping (see some examples!) for now, partly in the hope that you, who can do it more wisely with Brazilians (and for all i know Spanish-speaking names as well), might have the matter on your priorities, and partly with an eye to not wasting effort in case the titles in question may be on the verge of changing. I'd welcome your thoughts. Thanks,
--Jerzyt 15:08, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

On reflection, i recalled using the word "hope" above, and realized that (altho i see nothing wrong with that particular hope if unexpressed) my use of it could be taken as a politely expressed request. I am a stickler for the idea that there are many thousands of assignment editors at WP, each supervising exactly one editor, and as i would not explicitly request you to take on a task here that i think is worth doing, so i should also avoid more carefully the appearance of requesting, no matter how politely. I regret that wording, and hope saying so helps reverse any inhibition i created against your free choice of editing projects. Thanks again.
--Jerzyt 15:30, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Re your response, thanks, i actually am a bit of a bug for such information, and knowing that such info is available will in the long run become part of my toolbox for Cat piping. (My interest is that Living people is an important resource for getting LoPbN more complete, but using it for that would be much more efficient the fewer bios there with both surname and given name but alph'd on LP by given name. I'd like to make at least one pass thru them fixing "bad" ones, before seriously trying to utilize it, and i'm pleasantly surprised how quickly i can scan for them, suggesting that at least one pass would be a long-term but feasible project.) In any case, knowing about the article is super.

[edit] Flamengo 5 titles

I know youre brazilian and I know you know the facts and sources posted here: [4] The problem is people against Flamengo are pushing pov about 4 titles. As you seen either Wikipedia oprtuguese recognizes that. --201.79.27.9 12:51, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

CBF is the only official source (so, it is the only relevant source), and, according to that organization, unfortunately, Flamengo won the competition only four times. I hope one day CBF will recognize the Copa União title. --Carioca 21:50, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Eduardo Reck Miranda

At Articles for Deletion, you thought the article Eduardo Reck Miranda worth keeping. It could use a bit cleaning up. Given how Miranda was attacked and continually hurt by this attack being left on Wikipedia, would you mind spending a little time on Eduardo Reck Miranda to improve it somewhat? Thanks.-- Jreferee 19:10, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] M'Boi Mirim

I don't know if you can fix this artile, but it doesn't make much sense right now.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%27Boi_Mirim

It is an extremely poor area, and it was known, some years ago, as a violent area, with a death rate caused by fire weapons higher than many world violent areas, such as Colombia and the countries in the Middle West.

Where is the middle west? If I click on the link it takes me to a page about the midwest (in the U.S.A.) no countries there... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.61.190.218 (talkcontribs) . 07:20, November 4, 2006

It is not Middle West, the correct is Middle East. I tried to fix the article. --Carioca 21:17, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Additions to the Flamengo article

Hi Carioca. A user just added a significant number of titles to the Flamengo article (diff). Since the original list that was there up until then was added by me with the information from the official website (that was before they closed the contents), and no source was given for the new lines (in fact, I reverted one change because it was changing a piece of information that I had gotten from the official website), I'm looking to confirm if those titles were indeed won by Flamengo and if they are indeed notable enough to be included (for instance, it could be that one or more of those titles were won by a under-15 squad, which is not what is supposed to be on the article). Perhaps you could look over those new entries, see if anything there rings a bell? Thanks. Redux 15:26, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi again. Thanks for looking into the tournaments. :) Yes, I agree that minor, friendly tournaments should be moved to a separate section. We should definetely do that. Cheers, Redux 14:57, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
