Cartersville and Van Wert Railroad
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chartered in 1866, the Cartersville and Van Wert Railroad was originally planned to connect the Western and Atlantic Railroad at Cartersville, GA to the Selma, Rome and Dalton Railroad somewhere in Alabama. By 1870 the railroad had fourteen miles of broad gauge track connecting Cartersville to Taylorsville, GA but further growth was apparently impeded by shady financial dealings by then Governor Rufus Bullock, Hanniball Kimball, and other associates. At that time the railroad's name was also changed to the Cherokee Railroad.
