Cartersville, Georgia

Cartersville is a city in Bartow County, Georgia, in the United States. It was named after Col. Farrish Carter. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 15,925. Census estimates for 2005 indicate a population of 18,651. The population of Cartersville does not reach 20,000, but census estimates the area surrouding Cartersville boosts its population to near 27,000. It is estimated that the building of numerous large subdivisions will ultimately extend Cartersville's city limits into Paulding County, and Cobb County, converting it into a micropolitan area. The city is the county seat of Bartow CountyGR6.

(34.176405, -84.803916)According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 60.9 km² (23.5 mi²). 60.6 km² (23.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (0.51%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 15,925 people, 5,870 households, and 4,132 families residing in the city. The population density was 262.9/km² (680.7/mi²). There were 6,130 housing units at an average density of 101.2/km² (262.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 76.53% White, 17.04% African American, 0.28% Native American, 0.82% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 3.76% from other races, and 1.53% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.28% of the population.
There were 5,870 households out of which 33.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.6% were married couples living together, 13.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.6% were non-families. 25.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.59 and the average family size was 3.10.
In the city the population was spread out with 25.9% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 20.8% from 45 to 64, and 14.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 95.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.1 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $41,162, and the median income for a family was $48,219. Males had a median income of $35,092 versus $25,761 for females. The per capita income for the city was $19,977. About 8.9% of families and 11.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 13.7% of those under age 18 and 15.4% of those age 65 or over.

- Cartersville is also home to the nation's first outdoor Coca-Cola ad. It is located on the side of the Young Brothers' Pharmacy, which is on Main St. [1]
- In the story of the movie Big Momma's House, most of the action happens in Cartersville. The film was, however, shot in Orange, California.
- Cartersville was the hometown of actor Wayne Knight.
- Singer/Songwriter/Producer Butch Walker grew up in Cartersville and references it in the song "Get Down".
