Cart00ney or Cartooney (often spelled with the two zeroes) is an internet neologism related to an empty and comically overstated threat of legal action. The derivation of the word is unclear; by some explanations it is simply used as a synonym for "comical" and by others as a portmanteau of the words cartoon (alluding to fantasy and exaggeration) and attorney. The term was originally coined in the Usenet newsgroup news.admin.net-abuse.email and is generally used to mock the presumably fictitious lawyers that the subject threatens to unleash, although the term can also refer to the threats themselves. The canonical subject is a spammer reacting to what they consider undeserved censure, such as being publicly identified, blocked, or added to blacklists.
