Carsten Haitzler

Carsten Haitzler (born 1975), known as Raster or Rasterman to the open source community, is an Australian/German (his father is German and his mother is Finnish) software engineer best known for initiating the development of the Enlightenment X-Window Manager for UNIX/Linux. He now acts as the project's lead developer (or Benevolent Dictator for Life). He currently resides in Tokyo, Japan with his Japanese girlfriend Meg.

Carsten Haitzler was born in the African country of Nigeria but soon moved with his family to Germany where he lived until the age of 4. Carsten then moved to Sydney, Australia where he attended the University of New South Wales, graduating with a bachelor degree in computer science. In 1997 Carsten moved to North Carolina, USA to work for Red Hat in the development of the CORBA, Xlib, GTK+ libraries, then later moved to work with VA Linux Systems. Other software Carsten has contributed to includes electric eyes, Gtk theme engines, Imlib, Imlib 2 and Epplets.
