Carsonella rudii
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Carsonella rudii is an endosymbiont bacteria which lives in the abdomen of some psyllids.
It is notable as having the smallest known genome at 160,000 base pairs which contain about 182 genes. Because it is so streamlined, scientists have theorized it is becoming an organelle and providing essential enzymes to its host.
