Carrying Place, Ontario

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carrying Place is a small community in Prince Edward County, Ontario NW of Picton. It was named for its location on the portage between the Bay of Quinte and Weller's Bay on Lake Ontario.

On September 23 1787, Sir John Johnson signed the so-called "Gunshot Treaty" there with the Mississaugas, ceding lands between the Etobicoke Creek and the Bay of Quinte.

The Loyalist Parkway passes through the community.
