Carriage Hills, Richmond, California

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carriage Hills, a residential subdivision in the eastern hills of Richmond, California, is an incorporated area, geographically and socioeconomically considered part of El Sobrante, but within the city limits of Richmond. It is middle class and features tightly packed cookie cutter tract homes with modest yards.

The Carriage Hills area is on the margin of urban development with a large expanse of undeveloped land, parks and open space in the county. People may enjoy rolling views of green or yellow grasses on bumpy hills depending on what time of year it is.

Castro Ranch Road separates Carriage Hills North and Carriage Hills South. This road ends on one side at San Pablo Dam Road which connects to central Richmond, Orinda and Interstate 80. On the other end it runs into an intersection of Pinole Valley Road and Alhambra Valley Road. Alhambra Valley Road leads toward Pleasant Hill and Martinez and is also used as a shortcut for commuters trying to get to Orinda (they can take Alhambra Valley to Bear Creak Rd which will lead back to San Pablo Dam Road.) Pinole Valley Road leads to Pinole and is also used to access Interstate 80.

The area, no longer served by public transportation, was previously served by County Connection route 950 between the neighborhood and the Orinda BART station. Now residents must walk to San Pablo Dam Road to take AC Transit's route 74 which took over for previous AC Transit route 669 and also the 950. Residents can catch the BART train at either the Orinda or El Cerrito Del Norte station, both of which are accessible by bus after some walking and transferring.
