Caroline Crachami (possibly b. 1815— June 1824) was famous for being the smallest person in recorded history. Said to have been born in Palermo, she was known as the "Sicilian Fairy" or "Sicilian Dwarf." She had primordial dwarfism, and was only about 19 1/2 inches (50 cm) tall.
When she died in June 1824, her body was stolen by Dr. Gillian, the man whom her family had enlisted to display her at freak shows, and sold to the anatomist John Hunter for $500. Her father tried without success to recover her body. To this day, her skeleton is on display in the Hunterian Museum.
Gaby Wood wrote a book about her entitled The Smallest of All Persons Mentioned in the Records of Littleness.
