Carolina Herrera (Carolina Pacanins Niño de Herrera Guevara). Born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1939, she is a fashion designer and entrepreneur who founded her eponymous company in 1980 with great success. Based in New York since 1981, Herrera managed to qualify, throughout the 1970s and 1980s as one of the best dressed women in the world. Her empire grew so rapidly and steadily since its creation that she went on to dress Jacqueline Onassis for the last twelve years of her life. She is married to Venezuelan Reinaldo Herrera Guevara, son of fashion icon María Teresa (Mimí) Guevara Pietrantoni de Herrera Uslar, with whom she had two daughters. She was previously married to Guillermo Behrens Tello, bearing him two daughters as well.

[edit] Expansion

There are currently 2 "Carolina Herrera, New York" flagship boutiques in the world. The New York flagship is located on Madison Avenue. The company recently opened its Los Angeles flagship on Melrose Place.

In 2003, Carolina Herrera launched a lifestyle brand called CH Carolina Herrera. In that year, the company opened four stores at The Galleria in Houston, Americana Manhasset, in Manhasset New York, The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, and Village of Merrick Park in Coral Gables, Florida. In 2006, the retailer will open a boutique in South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, and in NorthPark Center in Dallas, Texas.

The company is aggressively expanding this lifestyle brand, while avoiding major luxury retail corridors such as Madison Avenue, Michigan Avenue or Rodeo Drive and it anticipates to open more stores in 2007 in Austin and San Antonio in Texas; Orlando, Tampa and Palm Beach in Florida; San Diego; Phoenix, and eventually, Los Angeles.[2]
