Carmel O'Boyle

Carmel O'Boyle is a teacher and SDLP counsellor in Down District Council. She lives with her husband Dr Manus O'Boyle in Newcastle, County Down. She has 3 daughters; Helen (25), Claire (23) and Lucy (20).

She was first elected in 1997 to represent Newcastle Ward. During 2004-2005 she was the vice-chairman of Down District Council and is was the chairman in 2006. She is also the chair of the Newcastle Community Association. She has been a representative of SEELB since 1997, sits on 4 BOGs: 2 primary, 1 special, and 1 FE College.

  • Member of Local Strategic Partnership Board
  • Member of Mourne Heritage Trust
  • Teaches French and Spanish in St Malachy's High School, Castlewellan.

It is popular culture throughout young people in Newcastle, County Down to refer to her as 'Her, who's in the paper everyday', because she regularly appears or writes to local newspapers and seems to always be in the news.
