[edit] World Wrestling Council(1999-2003)

The son of Puerto Rican legend Carlos Colón, Colón started out performing in Puerto Rico's World Wrestling Council (WWC) in 1999 when Ray Gonzalez was the WWC Universal Champion, playing the smart, cunning and cowardly heel. He, like all the heels who get the belt, was on a feud with Carlos Colon. At that point, Rey was the leader of the original Milenium Family, who had the likes of Dutch Mantell in it’s ranks.

Weeks before, it was acknowledged that one of Carlos kids was working as a TV cameraman during the shows, which surprised a lot of people. Was it that important? Well, as it turned out to be, yes. The very next week, Ray comes out with his stable and start cutting a promo on Carlos, while also taking verbal shots at poor old Carly. Carly simply replied with hand gestures or ignored him completely, but as the weeks went by ,the promos turned more insulting and degrading until finally, one night Carly left the camera and went into the ring. Rey continued insulting him and challenged Carly to give him his best shot, but Carly refused. So Rey slapped him in the face and this triggered the rage in the young kid, who tackled Rey down and started taking it to him, but the heels in Rey’s stable made the save and Carly was beaten down and bloodied as a crying Carlos Colon came out and helped the EMT’s attend to him.

The very next week, they air a video from Carlos house, in which he made Carly promised that he will never try to take Ray out himself and he will stay out of the wrestling business. The stage was set for Carlos vs Rey at the WWC Anniversary Show that year. The end of the match saw Carly make a run in with a shovel to knock out Rey and allow Carlos to win his 25th Universal Title.

The next following weeks, training videos of Carly started to air on TV, which culminated in his wrestling debut against El Exotico(later El Paparazzi in IWA). Soon after that, Carly was pushed to the moon, won the Universal Title and had long feuds with the likes of Sabu, Mr. Perfect and Jerry Flynn among others.

Eddie came into the business very soon after Carly. Once Carly had his first match, they showed videos of Eddie going to training sessions with Carly. Then he made his debut as part of the Junior Heavyweight Division, winning that title several times and having matches with Kid Kash and Rey Mysterio Jr among others. He also won the Puerto Rico Heavyweight Title and the Tag Team Titles with Carly once.

During their years in WWC, they where billed like loving brothers. They teamed together they traveled together, they supported each other. But something changed.

In 2003, Carly signed a developmental contract with WWE and was sent to OVW. When he made his TV debut in OVW, he was a heel. And with this the angle started.

Two months ago they started airing vignettes on TV. Stacy Colon, Eddie and Carly’s sister , read on the internet that Carly was a heel in the United States. This led to a lot of speculation and she decided not to tell anyone. The next week, a new video airs. After a match a “fan” tells Eddie that his brother sold himself to the devil and is a heel in OVW. Eddie says that’s not true and the fan tells him that he found it on the Internet. Eddie refuses to believe and leaves worried. The next week, Eddie asks Stacy to let him use the computer at her office and he surfs the net and finds out that Carly is indeed a heel. Brother and sister hug and Stacy says she will find out the truth.

The next week, Eddie and Stacy call Carly on speaker. Carly doesn’t know that Eddie is listening. Stacy asks the question and Carly denies it. Stacy tells him about the internet reports and Carly flips. He insults the internet writers, tells Stacy that the fans in Puerto Rico are “a stupid bunch of hypocrites” and he tells her to leave him alone. He hangs the phone and both, Eddie and Stacy are worried and mad.

Another week, Eddie calls Carly this time and it ends up the same way, this time Carly takes verbal shots at Eddie and hangs the phone. The next week, they announce that Carly is coming to Puerto Rico for Phase 2. Come Phase 2, The Wizard Analyses segment hosts Carly, who comes out acting arrogant and gets booed. Wizard asks the question and Carly dodges it several times, saying that his father is a legend in Puerto Rico and he wants to be a legend worldwide, it doesn’t matter how hard it is or what he has to do. Eddie comes out and the brothers argue a bit. Carly then says that it doesn’t matter how things go, he is Eddie’s brother and he loves him. He tells Eddie he is not at his level and that he has no chance in hell against Abdullah the Butcher, one of the few men who have beaten Carly before and Carly has not been able to beat. Of course as it turned out , Eddie DID beat Abdullah and cleanly, which sure pissed off Carly.

Eddie, Carlos and Stacy have a conversation on Carly’s attitude and Eddie says he will make the trip to Ohio as soon as he can. After this, they let the angle cool off a little and two weeks later Eddie goes to OVW. They show him around the airport, renting a car and then heading to the hotel where Carly was at. He asks the clerk for Carly’s room, the clerk calls Carly and he says that he has no brother. The clerk refuses to let Eddie in the hotel. Eddie finds a way to climb and reaches the third floor where the room was at. He knocks at the door, but Carly doesn’t reply. Then security came in “under Mr. Colon’s orders” and drag Eddie away.

Eddie then tries to talk his way into an OVW show, but the guy in the door says that Carly doesn’t have a brother and wont let him in. So Eddie walks to the line and buys a ticket. When he comes in, he see’s Carly in a six man tag match with Kenny Bollin’s guys against three other guys and Carly uses cheap tricks and eventually uses the tights during a roll-up for the win. Eddie cant believe it as Carly argues with the fans at ringside and the crowd throws trash at him. Eddie follows Carly backstage and jumps him, he argues with him about what his father told them and that if he ever knows this he will have a heart attack, they exchange strong shoves and then Carly slaps Eddie, but he fires back with rights and lefts and eventually takes Carly down, but Bollin and Carly’s partners attack Eddie 3 on 1 and then Carly joins in. They leave Eddie busted open and then Carly gets on his face and tells him that he sucks, that the Puerto Rican fans are mediocre and that they and Eddie can kiss his ass. He then shoves Eddie out the door and kicks him in the ass.

One last segment was aired before the match was announced. Carlos goes to OVW!! Carly arrives at the training center late and is inmediatly yelled at by Jim Cornette, but he ignores him and gets to training. Carly then yells at Cornette “I am a superstar, I can do what I want”.

Carlos arrives into the center and gets into the ring behind Carly, he pushes him into the corner and pins him there, yelling at him about what he did to Eddie and how disappointed he was on Carly. Carly tries to lie his way out of this, but Carlos just slaps the taste out of him for being a liar. Carly yells at Carlos and he slaps him again , promising to kick his ass, but some OVW guys (Johnny Jeter and someone else) drag him outside and out of the camp. The last segment is before the announcement itself. Eddie is sitting with his grandfather(who most be 90 if he is Carlos dad) and tells him the bad news. The grandfather replies with a “take it easy” and “remember you are family, Carly just needs some guiding” and then they officially announce the match. the Match was held in Caguas ,Puerto Rico with Carlito winning and saying the only way for the fans in Puerto Rico to watch him wrestle have to buy a WWE PPV to see him. As of 2006, he continues to perform there on special occasions.

[edit] Ohio Valley Wrestling(2003-2004)

In June of 2003, Carly Colón signed a developmental contract with WWE and was assigned to Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), WWE's training territory. In OVW, he was briefly managed by Kenny Bolin. On December 15, Carly was placed in a special dark match before RAW where he teamed with Brent Dail to face Bart Gunn and Jim Steele.

During his time in OVW, Colón was still wrestling in WWC. In April of 2004, WWE prevented a scheduled match between him and TNA's Abyss, which would have taken place in Puerto Rico.

[edit] World Wrestling Entertainment(2004-)

[edit] 2004

On October 7, 2004, Colón made his debut on SmackDown! as Carlito Caribbean Cool and defeated John Cena to win the WWE United States Championship. With this he became one of only a few WWE wrestlers who have won a championship on their debut in WWE. He was the United States Champion for a little longer than a month, before separating his shoulder and subsequently losing the title to Cena. At Survivor Series 2004, Carlito represented Team Angle in a 8-man tag team match against Team Guererro, but was eliminated after being chased out of the arena by John Cena before the match started. While injured, Carlito had a comical rivalry with SmackDown! general manager Theodore Long where he was made to do several demeaning jobs around the arena, such as selling hot dogs or mopping the floors, and in response created a petition to get Long fired from his job.

Using his WWE "Caribbean Cool" gimmick, Carlito had become a much hated heel in WWC, especially after spitting in the face of his own father on the Llamado de la Sangre event in November 2004 in Caguas, Puerto Rico. However, his successful run at WWE has since made him a loved wrestler in Puerto Rico, getting him cheers in recent events.

[edit] 2005

On March 26, 2005, Carlito made his return to the ring (after a forced recess due to a shoulder injury) in a match against his brother in Caguas.

Carlito made a high profile appearance at WrestleMania 21, interrupting "Piper's Pit". After insulting and attempting to attack both Roddy Piper and his guest, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Carlito received a Stone Cold Stunner. These events resulted in Piper and Carlito facing off at the Friday Madness event in WWC. Piper won the match.

Carlito's appearance on Piper's Pit led to his own interview segment, Carlito's Cabana, starting in April 2005. Carlito went on to feud with The Big Show, after Show turned down an offer to be Carlito's new enforcer on the Cabana. This feud involved Carlito tricking Big Show into eating a poison apple, and Matt Morgan as Carlito's enforcer. Carlito defeated Big Show at Judgement Day 2005 with the help of Matt Morgan.

Carlito moved to RAW in the 2005 Draft Lottery, winning the Intercontinental Championship from Shelton Benjamin in his debut match on RAW, and also becoming the first wrestler to win championships in 2 separate debut matches. He feuded with Benjamin over the title, retaining it against Benjamin several rematches, including one at Vengeance 2005. Carlito then went to feud with Ric Flair over the Intercontinental Championship, losing it to him at Unforgiven 2005.

Carlito would then enter a brand war against SmackDown!. In the beginning of this feud, Carlito announced the discontinuation of Carlito's Cabana. The following month at Survivor Series 2005, Carlito represented Team RAW in a 10-man Survivor Series tag team match against Team SmackDown!. Carlito was eliminated by JBL.

[edit] 2006

Near the end of 2005, Carlito set his sights on the WWE Championship, and entered the title race. After defeating Shelton Benjamin in a New Year's Revolution 2006 qualifying match, he was added to the Elimination Chamber main event match for the WWE title. At the pay-per-view, Carlito eliminated Shawn Michaels, Kane, and Chris Masters, and was left as one of the final two remaining, with John Cena. Earler in the match-up Carlito turned on Chris Masters, with whom he had made an alliance earlier in the night. At the Royal Rumble, Carlito double-crossed Masters once again, this time by eliminating him.

Carlito appeared on a World Wrestling Council show in Carolina, Puerto Rico on March 15, 2006. He defeated Tyson Tomko in a singles match, and hosted Carlito's Cabana with special guests Carlos Colón, Sr. and Victor Jovica. At the end of the show Carlito surprised the crowd with a sudden face turn, defending his father and his brother when they were attacked by the heel stable led by Jovica and "Mr. Hardcore" Rico Suave.

Despite their past problems, Carlito and Chris Masters began to team up, and entered the race for the World Tag Team Championship, which was then held by Kane and Big Show. At WrestleMania 22, Kane and Big Show defeated Carlito and Masters after Masters inadvertently hit Carlito in the back of the head. After the match, Carlito confronted Chris Masters. During the confrontation, Carlito received a face-like reaction from the crowd & he soon began dating Maria Kanellis on-air.

After holding a feud with his brother, Eddie Colón, Carlito reconciled with his family on the Camino a la Gloria event in April, 2006 in Carolina, Puerto Rico and became a face again, keeping his "cool" character. For the next few weeks Carlito would embarrass Chris Masters, including spitting in his face, attacking him from behind, and hitting him in the head with a steel chair. Their feud would culminate at Backlash 2006, where Carlito defeated Masters with help from the ropes. Despite Carlito’s heel-like antics, the crowd continued to cheer him, so naturally Carlito turned face. However, he could also be considered a tweener, as he has attacked face wrestlers as well.

Though, since then, Carlito has been one of the top faces on RAW.

Carlito, Johnny Nitro, and Shelton Benjamin were then scheduled for a Triple Threat match at Vengeance 2006 for Benjamin's Intercontinental Championship. The match ended when Carlito reversed a neckbreaker attempt by Benjamin into a Backcracker, and Nitro pulled Carlito out of the ring and pinned Benjamin, giving Nitro the win and the Intercontinental title. Then Carlito and Trish Stratus teamed up to face Melina and Nitro in a mixed tag match, which they won, at Saturday Night's Main Event, held July 15, 2006. Carlito and Trish then entered a (kayfabe) relationship.

Carlito then entered into a fued with Randy Orton when Orton attacked Stratus during a backstage segment. They would face each other at the Unforgiven 2006 pay-per-view and on a later episode of RAW. Carlito would lose both matches.

In the final few months of 2006, Carlito would then get back in the race for the Intercontinental Championship with Jeff Hardy, Shelton Benjamin, and Johnny Nitro. At Cyber Sunday, he was voted by the fans over Benjamin and Nitro to challenge Hardy for the title but lost the match.

Carlito's gimmick has recently undergone a small change as he has turned into a 'ladies man', first dating WWE Diva Trish and more recently, Torrie Wilson, this was confirmed on RAW as well as on WWE.com's WWE Fantasy as Carlito was featured in advertisements citing 'Score Like Carlito'.

[edit] Personal life

Carlito is the son of Puerto Rican legend Carlos Colón, the brother of fellow professional wrestler Eddie Colón and brother of Stacy Colón who has teamed up with Carlito in a few wrestling matches in the WWC. He is also cousins with Orlando Colón.

His decision to jump to the WWE when the opportunity arose was a controversial one amongst the local Puerto Rican wrestling community. Since his father Carlos Colón is a legendary wrestling promoter, many fans and insiders believed that it was only natural for Carlito to take the family business from his father one day, but when Carlito chose to go to the WWE, he was not only criticized by the locals, he was also labeled as someone who had "sold out" his Puerto Rican wrestling traditions over for the "flash and flair" of the WWE. Carlito spoke of this in an interview with the Calgary Sun in which he stated "I didn't care about what they thought. I've always dreamed of working for the WWE when I was young, and I took that chance when it came".

According to Dave Meltzer, the reason Carlito is so fluent in the English language is because his mother is Canadian. Carlos wrestled in several Canadian territories early in his career and they grew up speaking English at home.

Carlito's theme music to promote the WWE Wreckless Intent album is, "Quien Soy Yo (Who I Am)" by Kaballon, but he does not use this entrance music. His actual entrance music is called Cool, which was featured on the WWE ThemeAddict: The Music, Vol. 6 CD of 2004.

[edit] Trivia

  • In October 2006 he made a special guest apperence at the 2006 Australian Nickelodeon Kids choice awards presenting 'Best Actress'.
