Carlos Botelho or Bottelho Chaves, 1964 is a Portuguese painter and sculptor. He currently lives in Lisbon. He created the Monumento ao Bombeiro.

Born in Chaves, district of Vila Real - Trás-os-montes, in his childhood study by the books of medicine of XIX century of his grandfather and Doctor Martiniano Ferreira Botelho, illustrated with beautiful engravings, the taste for the complexity of the human anatomy who drew in the summer vacations in Soutelo de Aguiar and would leave a mark. He remember Lereno the primary teacher and brother of Nadir Afonso a famous Portuguese painter, who much contributed to stimulate him in the ways of the art. The proximity of the Industry of brick and the adobe, the workshops of the arts of forges and the iron, the Arquitectural Ateliers where drew and of the music that always folloied had been very fluencing. At the Sixteen years he exhibits for the first time Drawings and Paintings in the Museum of the City (Chaves) with the support of the City council. He made secondary studies that interrupted for in existence of compatible graduation with his vocation having opted by law…

At the age of seventeen years the intense activity, the personality, the discovery and magic of Lisbon seduced him. In the AR.CO - Center of Art and Visual Communication - studies Drawing and Painting under orientation of Costa Cabral and Rogério Ribeiro two references in contemporary arts.

  • Workmanship and activity in Lisbon among others it exerted: Scenographic, decoration of the Pavilion of the Guiné-Bissau in Expo' 98, painted big advertisement canvas for cinema, commemoration of the centenarian of the birth of Fernando Pessoa, Artistic Drawing and Advertising executive, Posters, Announcements, Displays, Interiors, Publishing graphic Design and illustration. Graphical, Creative and Collaborative ilustrator and Designer of the magazines: “People and Trips”, “Africa Today”, “Communicate and think between Masons”, “between columns".
  • Exhibitions in the Palace of the Coruchéus, Gallery B' Art, Gallery of Art Bairro Alto, Cultural Association Spectemur Agendo, Painting in the Club of Plastic Arts - CNAP among others. Represented in some Institutions, public and private colecctions.
  • Executes for demmand works of Art for the City councils of, Lisbon, Abrantes, Oeiras, Sintra.
  • Author of the Monument to the Fireman in Bronze and Concrete: Commemorative medal of the same monument.

  • Bronze Medail “To that for valorous workmanships” Order of Master Afonso Domingues among others, for the magazine “Between Columns”, publication of the Great Regular Lodge of Portugal GLRP.
  • Director of Production of the Exposition “Aquae Liberae Triumphalis Ingressus” - Fragments for the classification of the Aqueduct of Free Waters as patrimony of the Humanity for the EPAL.
  • Author of Covers and Graphics for books, DVDs and Art Catálogues.
  • Prolific partnership with “the Creative” painter, Manuel Carmo, in some projects of Art and editorials.
  • In 2006 he was Director of production of the commemorative Exposition of the 250 years of Earthquake of Lisbon - 1755 - For the Museum of the Water, with the High Sponsorship of Its Excellency the President of the Portuguese Republic Dr Jorge Sampaio.
  • Director of production, Exposition “freedom nº 800.250.474”, commemorative of the 25 of April of 1974 and of 10º Anniversary of the Mário Soares Foundation. Cover and Graphics of the same book.
  • Responsible and coordinating graph of the Website of the APOREM - Portuguese Association that integrates 17 Museums.

  • Consultant of Marketing and Graphical Designer is currently Director of Communication of the ONG - VITAE - Association of Solidarity and among others projects International Development that commands “the Center of Shelter of the Homeless” that receives 280 homeless citizens and in Lisbon - Almada and Setúbal.
