Carl Torbush

Carl Torbush is a former college football head coach for Louisiana Tech University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is currently the assistant head coach at Carson-Newman College, a NCAA Div. II school in Jefferson City, TN.

He began his career as an assistant coach for the Baylor Bears, and later coached for the Southeastern Louisiana Lions, the Ole Miss Rebels, the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Texas A&M Aggies. His UNC Tarheels led the nation in total defense from 1995 through 1997 while he was defensive coordinator there.

Torbush joined the UNC coaching staff in 1988 as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach and was elevated to the head coaching position on December 8, 1997 following the move of Mack Brown to the University of Texas. He held this position for three years but was fired on November 20th, 2000 having compiled a record of 17-18.

He recruited and coached many NFL players. During his time at the University of North Carolina, at least one of his linebackers went pro every year. Has coached such notable players as: Julius Peppers, Ronald Curry, Brian Simmons, Greg Ellis, and Dre' Bly.

'*Torbush was the head coach for the final game of the 1996 season as a result of Mack Brown leaving UNC for Texas the week prior to the New Years day Gator Bowl.
