Carl Myerscough

Carl Myerscough (born 21 October 1979 in Hambleton) is an English athlete. He specialises in the Shot put event and is the British record holder as of 2006.

In 1999, Myerscough's record was tarnished when he tested positive for "a cocktail of banned substances"^[1] and was subsequently banned from competing for two years, and banned for life from the Olympics. He has always denied knowingly taking drugs, however.

In 2002 he broke the British indoor shot put record and in 2003, the outdoor record - up to that point, both had been held by Geoff Capes since the late 1970s. However, Carl has improved his distances somewhat since then and his current personal best is 21.92 metres.

Myerscough is married to the American athlete Melissa Price, who has also been banned in the past after testing positive for drug use.^[2]
He has been nicknamed "The Blackpool Tower" in reference to his height of 2.09m/6'10", though he is actually from Over Wyre.
