Carl Monstirle, (1635 - 1673) (son of Thomas Monstirle), was a notable physiologist and a passionate chess player. He was born and raised in the town of Fredrikstad, Norway until the age of 20, when he went to England for studying at the Charterhouse School. In 1661 he went back to his home town, established a family with Nadja Monstirle and worked for the rest of his (rather short) life as a doctor / researcher, specializing in humans' external tissues. He released two books on this period: "The human skin recovering ability" and "Muscle, skin and cartilage".
