Capitalia is an Italian banking group headquartered in Rome. Capitalia was formed in July 2002 in a merger of Banca di Roma and Bipop-Carire, and it is the fourth largest Italian banking group today, as well as third largest life insurance dealer.

Capitalia is a limited company, and it is currently led by the President Cesare Geronzi and the CEO Matteo Arpe. It employs 28,264 people and its annual profit is 5,171,000 million EUR (as of 2004).

Banca di Roma S.p.A. was formed in 1992 by the merger of two large historical banks of Italy: the Banco di Santo Spirito (founded in 1605 by Pope Paul V) and of Banca di Roma as well as Cassa di Risparmio di Roma.
