Cape Race LORAN-C transmitter

Cape Race LORAN-C transmitter is a LORAN-C transmitter at Cape Race, Canada at 46°46'32"N, 53°10'28" W (46°46′32″N, 53°10′28″W).

Cape Race LORAN-C transmitter used as antenna tower until February 2nd, 1993 a 411.48 m (1350 ft) tall guyed mast, which was built in 1965. On February 2nd, 1993 a fatigue failure of the eyebolt head in a compression cone insulator on a structural guy occured, which caused a swing-in damage, that resulted in tower collapse.

It was afterwards replace by a 260.3 metre ( 854 ft) tall guyed mast, which is insulated against ground.

It was used until 1993 a part of LORAN-C Chain GRI 9930 and worked with a transmission power of 1800 kilowatts. Today Cape Race LORAN-C transmitter acts as Yankee Secondary Transmitter of Canadian East Coast LORAN-C chain (GRI 5930) and as Whiskey Secondary of Newfoundland East Coast LORAN-C chain (GRI 7270). Transmission power for Canadian East Coast LORAN-C chain is 1000 kW, for Newfoundland East Coast LORAN-C is 500 kW.
