Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority, or CCRTA operates a system of seasonal and year-round fixed and flexible route bus services around Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

[edit] Rolling Stock
The CCRTA has two main bus types in use. A low floor, larger omni bus used for longer routes, and a van / paratransit style bus for smaller ones, equipped with seatbelts and a wheelchair lift (the later is used both for scheduled service and the B-Bus - see below.)
[edit] Fixed Route Service - The Breeze
Some fixed route service, called the Breeze is limited to the Cape's summer tourist season (Late June until the second week in September) although a few routes operate year-round (albeit with limited service.) In the past, the routes have had actual names, such as the Hyannis to Orleans line, but more recently the CCRTA has adopted a system of colors to identify the different lines.
[edit] Year Round
[edit] Green Line
Formerly called the H2O, or Hyannis to Orleans Breeze, this bus runs between the Hyannis Transportation Center or the Sturgis Charter School (around the beginning and end of the school day) to the Orleans Stop and Shop, roughly following Route 28 via Chatham. This service runs year round, but in the off season, service is limited to every other hour each direction and only runs Mon-Sat.
[edit] Blue Line
Formerly called the Sealine Breeze, this line runs on Route 28 in the other direction, between the Hyannis Transportation Center to Woods Hole, in Falmouth. This service also runs year round, but like the Green Line, runs Mon-Sat every other hour or so during the off season. During the summer, service terminates in Falmouth Center (a little before Woods Hole) and passengers wishing to go further can change to the seasonal WOOSH Woods Hole trolley.
[edit] Red Line
Connects the Hyannis Transportation Center with the Barnstable Senior center in Hyannis, the shortest of all routes operated by CCRTA. Very limited weekday only service in the off season.
[edit] Yellow Line
Formerly called the Villager, connects the Hyannis Transportation Center with Barnstable Village, via the Cape Cod Mall. Roughly follows Route 132. Again, very limited service in the off season, but is a popular route during the summer.
[edit] Seasonal (June - October)
[edit] WOOSH Trolley
Connects with the Sealine at Falmouth Mall and runs through Falmouth Center and Woods Hole, terminating at the Steamship Authority docks at the Woods Hole harbor. Service runs hourly between 9:30am and 7:00pm seven days a week.
[edit] Provincetown Shuttle
Connects Horton's Campground in North Truro with Downtown Provincetown. Operates two distinct routes, one heads up Conwell Street to the Airport and Race Point Beach, the other continues down Bradford Street to Herring Cove Beach and First Pilgrims Park (the last route stops after sunset.)
[edit] Fares
The Red and Yellow lines, the WOOSH trolley, and the Provincetown Shuttle, have a flat fare, $1.00 for adults, $0.50 for children 17 and younger and senior citizens regardless of distance traveled.
The Blue and Green lines operate on a zoned system depending on the number of towns you're traveling through. Fares range between $1.00 and $3.50. There are no discounted fares for children, but multi ride cards exist for commuters and students at the Sturgis Charter School.
On all routes, children 5 and younger travel free when accompanied by an adult aged 18 or older.
Several Passes are available for the Flex and Breeze.
Day Pass- unlimited rides for one day- is $3.00
Transit Pass- 20 rides- doesn't expire- is $15.00
Monthly Pass- unlimited rides for one month- is $35.00
Also, all passes are 1/2 price for people 60+ or disabled. Passes work with the Flex and Breeze.
[edit] Semi Fixed Route - The Flex
New for 2006, the CCRTA started the Flex to connect between the Green Line and the Provincetown shuttle. The Flex is designed for lower and outer Cape residents and although the bus follows more or less a fixed route, the driver, for a slightly increased fare will deviate up to 3/4 of a mile to accommodate passengers with disabilities or who have difficulty getting to a scheduled stop. Fares are $1.00 for getting on and off at a fixed stop, $2.00 for a non-fixed stop. There are no discounted fares for children, but seniors pay half price.
When the Provincetown shuttle ends in October, the Flex continues into downtown Provincetown.
[edit] Non Fixed Route - The B Bus
The B Bus is a paratransit/ dial a ride service also operated by CCRTA. This is the oldest of the CCRTA services, and is designed for the elderly and disabled, though anyone can use it, provided they register and set up an account with CCRTA ahead of time. All service is on demand and fares are based on milage.
NOTE: Sometimes the term B-Bus is used to refer to the entire CCRTA system collectively.
[edit] Former Routes
CCRTA operated a loop/shuttle service in and around Chatham in 2002, although this was terminated before the tourist season even ended due to unpopularity.
Additionally, there used to be a Yarmouth shuttle that operated during the tourist season as a more frequent alternative to the Green/ H2O line running from the bus terminal in Hyannis to Dennis and back. It overlapped about half of the green line route and ran hourly during the season. As of 2006, this route is apparently no longer opperational, perhaps due to the need for rolling stock to run the "Flex" route, perhaps due to unpopularity. Oddly though, a Yarmouth Trolley is still shown on the route map, but no fare or scheduling information can be found.
