Founded in 1915 and still guided by lay Roman Catholics, Canterbury is a college preparatory, coeducational boarding and day school for students in Forms 3rd through 6th (9th through 12th grades). The School prides itself on creating a community based on Catholic values, where students and faculty forge lasting bonds and every student experiences a broad and challenging program in a small school setting. The School's educational environment fosters academic rigor, athletic development, artistic enrichment and spiritual growth. The hallmark of a Canterbury education is the School's willingness to accept students as they are, support them where necessary, stretch them where appropriate, and inspire them to become moral leaders in a secular world.

Old School House facilitates the language and history departments. The majority of language and history classes will be held in this building. Canterbury offers a wide range of foreign languages including Spanish, French, Latin, Italian, and Greek.
Hume facilitates the theology and mathematic departments on the upper level, and the science department on the lower level. The Hume building also houses Canterbury's McGuire Auditorium on the upper level.
Steele Hall facilitates the library on the upper level, and the business office and a lecture room on the lower level. In addition, the school dining hall and cafeteria is located on the lower level of Steele.
Dorms Sheehan House (nee Middle House) for upper form Boys, Carter House (nee South House) for upper form girls, Duffy House (nee North House) for lower form girls, Hickory Hearth, Havermayer Hall for middle form boys, and Carmondy for lower form boys.
