Canonicus

Canonicus (c. 1565 – 4 June 1647) was a Native American chief of the Narragansett. He was a firm friend of English settlers.
It was he who gave to Roger Williams the first land in Rhode Island, 1638.
He was succeeded by his nephew Miantonomoh.
