Cannington is a small village located in Ontario, Canada in Brock Township, which sits in the northern section of the Regional Municipality of Durham. It also holds the high school that serves the majority of Brock Township.

Cannington is one of three towns in Brock Township, a thriving series of communities about 1.5 hours north of Toronto. It (the township) sits on Lake Scugog and the Trent-Severn Waterway, and contains three thriving communities, one of which is Cannington.

Cannington was home to the notable author Timothy Findley, who wrote a memoir, From Stone Orchard, about his experiences at the farm on the outskirts of Cannington.

Until recently there were two public schools that served Cannington and the surrounding areas: McCaskills Mills Public School ( town site) and the rural site, which generally served the in-town children and the farming community respectively. The schools have recently been combined and now the different buildings house different grade levels. Construction has commenced on a single school for the entire community, with the planned opening date in late 2006.

Cannington has many club sports and leagues, including a Men's Hockey League, a Minor Hockey League, Softball Leagues, Hardball Leagues and a thriving Broomball League.

Cannington is also the location of the municipal offices for the Township of Brock, which were built on the site of an old hotel in 'downtown' Cannington.

Cannington is the birthplace of Rick MacLeish, a retired NHL hockey player.

Robert Holmes was also born in Cannington in 1861, the son of the blacksmith John Holmes. He became an acclaimed artist, beloved teacher and recognized botanist. There is a plaque to him in MacLoed Park. Some of his beautiful watercolours of native wildflowers can be seen in the Cannington Historical Society's Museum in the upper part of MacLoed Park.
