A candlestick, chamberstick, or single candelabrum is a decorative holder for one or more candles, and is often shaped as a column or pedestal. Those used in bedchambers are called chambersticks and typically are much shorter and furnished with a wide pan to catch wax drippings while being carried. A special kind of Jewish candelabrum is the menorah. While unnecessary today because of electrical interior lighting, candlesticks, candelabra, and other traditional lighting devices are often used in modern homes as accessories, or as part of the interior design.
In popular culture, candlesticks are featured in the nursery rhyme Jack Be Nimble; as the character 'Lumiere' in Disney's Beauty and the Beast; and in the game Clue. Many of Liberace's piano performances included a candelabrum on top of the grand piano. In the movie Bull Durham the assistant coach Larry (played by Robert Wuhl) suggests candlesticks as a wedding present during a crisis meeting held at the pitcher's mound in the middle of a game.
