Candace of Meroe

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Candace of Meroe was the queen of Nubia at the time of the conquest of Alexander the Great. When Alexander attempted to conquer her lands in 332 B.C.E., she arranged her armies to meet him and was present on a war elephant when he approached. Alexander assessed the strength of her armies, and promptly withdrew from Nubia, instead heading to Egypt.
