Regional profile
Notwithstanding the near-sweep of the Conservatives in 2004, southern Saskatchewan typically produces an extreme urban-rural split. The ridings that are entirely rural are almost as conservative as ridings in rural Alberta, and are even more so now with issues like same-sex marriage being highly unpopular. The urban areas of Regina are traditionally more supportive of the New Democratic Party, although due to a decrease of popularity, and the gerrymandered Regina districts, they were wiped out in 3-way races in 2004 and again in 2006. The Liberals also have some support here (mainly in Regina), but it really only translates into one seat - that of former Finance Minister Ralph Goodale.
