Canadian Professional Hockey League

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Canadian Professional Hockey League was founded in 1926.[1]. The original five teams were all in the province of Ontario. The CPHL operated with eight teams for the next two seasons. The league was dramatically set back, after its third season, when most of the teams defected to the Ontario Hockey Association or the International Hockey League in 1929. In its fourth and final season in 1930, the league was reduced to four teams.

The F.G. "Teddy" Oke Trophy was the symbolic championship tophy of the league's champions. The Windsor Bulldogs took the trophy with them to the International Hockey League in 1929-30.

A second league by the same name was mooted during the 2004-05 NHL lockout but never was formally organized.
