Canadian Monopoly
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Canadian Monopoly is an edition of the popular board game Monopoly. It features Canadian properties, railroads and utilities in place of those from the original game.
The Canadian edition was originally released in 1982. An updated version was released in 2000. Canadian Monopoly is sold as a special edition; regular Monopoly is still available in Canada, and remains more widely known than the Canadian version.
Properties span Canada from east to west, with streets in St. John's at the beginning of the circuit in lieu of Mediterranean and Baltic Avenues, and streets in Vancouver at the end in lieu of Park Place and Boardwalk. As well, the railways are all Canadian lines, and the police officer depicted on the "Go to Jail" space is a Mountie. These properties originated in the 1982 edition.
The 2000 edition brought further changes from the Monopoly standard. Player pieces include Canadian symbols such as a moose, a canoe, a beaver and a hockey player. "Community Chest" and "Chance" cards are also Canadianized; they are called "Federal" and "Provincial", and include striking oil in Alberta and being awarded the Order of Canada.
