Canadian Coalition for Democracies

The Canadian Coalition for Democracies (CCD) is a Canadian political action organization that advocates greater support for Israel, India and several other democratic states. The CCD professes to maintain a non-partisan, issue-oriented approach to its objectives.
The CCD has placed particular emphasis on calling for the Canadian Government to adopt an unabashedly pro-Israel stance, and rejects providing Palestinians with any development or humanitarian assistance. It has done so with op-ed contributions to Canadian newspapers (which have regularly and explicitly likened the policies of the Liberal Party of Canada to those of the Nazi era in German history, for example accusing the Liberals of supporting "Judenrein" in the West Bank); through press releases; and in its public message forum. (All of these are available on the group's website). At the same time, it has praised individual senior Liberals such as former Minister of Justice Irwin Cotler for their pro-Israel positions.
The CCD has generally supported the policies of the Conservative government of Stephen Harper, and the organization's leadership has urged its members to view support for the Conservative Party of Canada as equivalent to support for Israel. When it finds fault with Conservative policy, as for example it did when Canada did not change its votes significantly on fall 2006 UN General Assembly resolutions relating to Israel and the Middle East conflict, the CCD issued a press release that was critical but that avoided any of the more strident rhetoric directed against the Liberals.
