"Can You Feel It" was a hit recording by funk and soul group The Jacksons, recorded in March 1980 and released in September 1980 as the first track on their album Triumph. When the video was released in 1981, it became famous for amazing special effects that were ahead of its time.

While not a big hit on the Billboard charts, it became one of the group's most popular anthems for social change and peaceful unity. Written by brothers Jackie and Michael, the song featured solo leads by Randy and Michael. The song reached as high as #77 on the pop charts and #30 on the R&B charts in United States, but reached #6 in the UK and #2 in The Netherlands in 1981.[1]

[edit] Remakes/Covers

  • The bass line is almost identical to the bass line in "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane, but is sped up.
  • The melody to "Can You Feel It" is sampled in the song "Sorry" by Madonna. Note also the similarity between "Material Girl" and "Can You Feel It".
  • British rock band V covered the song in 2004 in a rock style.
  • Female rapper Charli Baltimore performed a song, "Feel It", with a sample from The Jacksons' original song, while Baltimore provided new lyrics for the song's verses.
  • The Swedish rap group Snook sampled "Can You Feel It" in their song "Superfitta"
  • Tamperer vs Maya sampled the song in their song "Feel It", while the chorus was a repetitive line of 'what's she going to look like with a chimney on her'.

[edit] Trivia

In a 2005 episode of the Channel 4 television programme The Heist, the psychological illusionist Derren Brown used the song as an association with motivation, as part of a psychological experiment in which four subjects were persuaded to rob a security van, allegedly through the power of suggestion only.
