[edit] History
The three band members, Doug Schaefer, Daniel Spurr, and Daniel Thompson, met in 2000 while attending Connecticut College. They played a few shows in 2000 & 2001 (under 15). In 2002, they started touring with an intensity that they've so far successfully maintained. During a few recent summers, drummer Doug Schaeffer took a job on the Grounds Crew at the folk music camp Pinewoods. According to someone attending the camp, Doug Schaeffer played privately with fiddler Amelia Mason, pianist Emily Troll and guitar/mandolinist, Brian Flanagan.
The Can Kickers have spent most of their time as a band going on huge tours all around the United States and Ireland, playing (as of 02/25/06) a whopping 394 shows.
[edit] Musical heritage
The Can Kickers' style is genuine to the traditions of "old-time" songs. They play old songs the same way they were originally played: with energy, feeling and vigor. They disregard the polish and smoothness and go straight for the excitement that makes old-time music good.
