[edit] "myth" is true

My nephew is in the Army in Baghdad. He came home for a small break and shared some of the things he actually saw. They do run faster than 10 mph. They'll chase their humvy's over the desert while traveling 20 or 30, trying to stay in the shadow. The reason they are called camel spiders is because they leave large lesions on the sides of camels after biting them, spreading the anesthetic, and then proceeding to feed.... they can do the same on humans. My nephew had one crawl on his face in the middle of the night... he screamed like a girl, and chased it out of the tent with a baseball bat after jockeying side to side a couple times, which the camel spider mimic'd prior to retreating. They're bad news voracious night feeders with an extremely strong bite.
