[edit] In the book
Campion is shown to be brave and a skilful leader, one of the few rabbits respected by General Woundwort. He is known throughout Efrafa as a noble and brave rabbit, "it would certainly need an enterprising officer-Captain Campion perhaps." Campion was a runner in a wide patrol at Efrafa, "it was Campion's principal duty to search the outskirts of Efrafa at morning and evening to report anything new." He takes over the warren of Efrafa after Woundwort's disappearance. He is also treated with some respect by the rabbits of Watership Down as although a clear enemy, he earns the respect and admiration of first Bigwig and then Hazel, "like Bigwig, he felt a reluctant liking for Campion." After Woundwort's disappearance he agrees that Efrafa and Watership Down can co-exist in peace.
[edit] In Tales from Watership Down
The final chapter of the book is devoted to Campion. Campion still thinks highly of Woundwort's patrols, but Efrafan rabbits are tired of "Woundwort's fancy ways" and refuse to participate. Campion goes to Vleflain for recruits, causing tension between himself and Groundsel, Vleflain's chief rabbit. Hazel solves the problem by inviting Campion to Watership Down, where Campion runs patrols for a long time. Campion eventually dies on patrol after a fight with a pair of cats.
[edit] In the film
Campion plays a minor part in the film, and is portrayed as a typical Efafan officer - quite unlike his character in the book.
[edit] In the TV series
Campion is one of two known captains of Owsla in Efrafa. He is brave, and thoughtful towards others, as well as loyal to his warren; although he realises that it is slowly being destroyed by General Woundwort. He eventually forms an allegiance with the Watershippers and falls in love with Blackberry, who is a doe in the TV series. During a battle on Watership Down he gives his life to save Woundwort when the warren's caverns collapse.
In the second season of the TV series he is seen to have survived, and is sent by the Black Rabbit of Inlé to stop Woundwort. In his travels he became for a short while Chief Rabbit of the militaristic warren Darkhaven, before Woundwort took over and forced him into revealing the location of Watership Down. After Woundwort's defeat, Campion presumably settles on Watership Down to start a new life with Blackberry.
