[edit] Format
There was no padronized format for the Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol Feminino, changing almost every year.
In 2001, the competition was hosted in Ubá, Minas Gerais, being played from August 18 to September 9 of that year, and was disputed by 20 teams divided in five groups of four teams each. The top two teams of each group, plus the two best third placed teams qualified to the second round. These 12 teams were divided in four groups of three teams each. The top team of each group qualified to the semifinals. The losers of the semifinals disputed a third and fourth place playoff, and the winners disputed the final match. Santa Isabel won the competition after defeating Matonense 1-0. The topscorer of the competition was Duda, of Internacional, who scored 10 goals.
