[edit] Format

The format is identical to the 2006 edition. 20 teams will compete, each team playing the other in a home-and-home format. At the season finale, the team with the most accumulated points (3 for each win, 1 for a draw, none for a loss) will be declared champion.

Pending official designation by the various governing bodies, classification within the championship will earn the respective clubs seeds in various other tournaments. Given the model from the 2006 championship, the top four clubs will receive entry into the 2008 edition of the Libertadores Cup. If a Brazilian club conquers the Libertadores 2007, and it finish among the top four, the fifth placed club will also earn a spot on the competition. Positions 5 through 11 (or 6 through 12) will qualify for the Copa Sudamericana. The top 16 teams will earn the right to compete in the 2008 national champion Série A, with the bottom four clubs being relegated to Série B (to be replaced by the top four clubs of the 2007 Série B championship).
