Camp Bauercrest

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Camp Bauercrest is a summer camp for Jewish boys, located in Amesbury, Massachusetts. Founded in 1931 by the combined efforts of four local Jewish community centers, land on Lake Attitash in Amesbury was acquired from Ralph Bauer, the then mayor of Lynn, Massachusetts. (The land was Bauer's summer residence; President Calvin Coolidge, a personal friend of Bauer, was a frequent guest during the time Bauer owned the property.) The camp is accredited by the American Camp Association, and holds sessions from late June through mid August.

In 1996, Camp Bauercrest endured a horrific tragedy when a massive fire set ablaze the Rec Hall, Arts and Crafts building, and 3 bunks. Amazingly nobody was hurt, and camp resumed the next year with all the buildings rebuilt.

Sometimes, during the second month, there is a color war.

In August of 2006, Brian Bernstein's Blue Vengeance defeated Joseph Casper's White Shogun, 1514-1466, in Color War. The play split in said war was 66.5-33.5 in favor of the Blue team. Chief Judges Eric "Deric" Dannenberg, Zachary "Rat" Rachins, Andrew "Shmu" Silver, and William "Jimbo" Smoller presided over the festivities.

Also in 2006, Bauercrest opened its Music Room. Under the guidance of Zen master David Ira Shecter, the room rose to prominence across the hillside and became one of the camp's most popular nebbish attractions.

Currently, Bauercrest is in its 76th summer session. It is being run by director Robbie Brockman, and assistant directors Assaf Swissa and Craig Simons. The camp rabbi is Alex Dombroff. Bar Mitzvah Boys of 2007 will likely include mediocre athlete Joel "Falco" Felcher, Russell Porter, the Waterfront Head, and Danny Bernstein.

In 2006 Alex Dombroff and David Ira Shecter completed a 10 year pact which they had mad when they were only 10 years old, and finally got Bar Mitzvahed becomming imortalized in Crest Lore, as they were honored with the Bauercrest 13 year jacket.
