Camillo Mariani

Camillo Mariani (1565-1611) was an Italian early-baroque sculptor.

He was born in Vicenza. He apprenticed in the studio of the prominent Venetian Mannerist sculptor Alessandro Vittoria, but moved to Rome in 1597. His first works in Rome were stucco statuary for the churches of San Bernardo alle Terme (1600) and of the Gesù. Emblematic of his emotional depictions is his Saint Catherine of Alexandria. One of his apprentices was Francesco Mochi, who took over his studio upon his death.
