Camerupt (バクーダ Bakūda ?) is one of the 493 fictional species of Pokémon from the Pokémon Franchise - a series of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media created by Satoshi Tajiri. It is listed as Pokémon #323 in the National Pokédex, and #102 in the Hoenn Pokédex.

Camerupt's name is a portmanteau of "camel" and "erupt", the volcanic act of spewing forth magma from its insides. Its Japanese name is a portmanteau of 爆発 (bakuhatsu?), eruption, and 駱駝 (rakuda?), camel.

[edit] Biology

Camerupt is a large, red-furred camel-like Pokémon with rocky humps on its back and ring symbols upon its sides. The volcano-shaped humps are formed by a transformation of Camerupt's bones. Within Camerupt's body is the violent activity of a volcano, containing molten magma of up to 18,000 degrees Fahrenheit that occasionally erupts from its volcanic mountain-shaped humps. This phenomenon happens naturally about once every ten years, but it most often occurs when Camerupt becomes enraged. Camerupt lives in the craters of volcanoes.

[edit] In the video games

Camerupt must be evolved from a level 33 Numel. Numel can be caught in the Fiery Path and Route 112.

The Grunts of Team Magma, the wicked team who plots to expand the land in Pokémon Ruby and Emerald, use Camerupt's unevolved form Numel in their battles against the player. Maxie, leader of Team Magma, owns a Camerupt and battles with it.

In battles, Camerupt works well in 2-on-2 with its Earthquake attack, which hurts all Pokémon in play except for the user. The Pokémon used with Camerupt should be Flying-type or should have the Levitate ability to ensure that Camerupt doesn't damage it with Earthquake. Camerupt can also learn Rock Slide and Flamethrower. It is also one of the very few Pokémon that can learn the Eruption attack, a move that decreases in power as Camerupt loses HP.

Also, with his ability "Magma Armor" it cannot be frozen and also when it is carried in your party it makes eggs to hatch in half the time required (In emerald)

Camerupt first appears in the episode Candid Camerupt!. Ash battles the Winstrates (they appeared in Ruby and Sapphire), owners of a Camerupt which battles Ash's Pikachu, but due to some mishaps the battle ends up in a draw.

Camerupt later appears in the anime in the episode Lights, Camerupt, Action!, as a "work-horse" hauling camera-related equipment for its trainer.

[edit] In the card game

Camerupt has appeared in the following sets, sometimes as multiple cards. As of yet, all Camerupt cards have been Fire-type, not Ground/Fighting-type.

  • EX Ruby and Sapphire
  • EX Dragon
  • EX Team Magma vs Team Aqua (as Team Magma's Camerupt)
  • EX Deoxys
  • EX Emerald
  • EX Emerald (as "Camerupt EX")
  • EX Holon Phantoms
  • EX Crystal Guardians

The "Crystal Guardians" Camerupt is highly useful against the relatively common δ Pokèmon, as it takes 40 less damage from any cards with δ in their name. However, it otherwise has relatively basic attacks.
