Cameron Delaney

Cameron Delaney (born November 25, 1980 in Sydney, New South Wales) is a former backstroke swimmer from Australia, who competed for his native country at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. There he finished in eleventh position in the 200m Backstroke, clocking 2:00.39 in the semi final. Cameron Delaney was a member of the Galston Swimming Club in Sydney, NSW and trained under former Olympian Gary Winram. He also worked as a lifeguard whilst training. In 1999 Cameron made himself noticed as a backstroke contender by finishing 3rd in the 200m back in the Pan Pacific Games. In this race he finished 3rd behind American Lenny Krazelburg, who beat the world record. He took nearly 2.5 seconds off his previous personal best in this race. He didn't quite match this time to qualify for the Olympics but finished second to Matt Welsh in a time of 2.00.68 (PB 1.59.98) He started swimming as a child on the advice of a doctor who told his parents Delaney had a weak chest.
