Cameroceras ("chambered horn") was an 11 meter long orthocone that lived in the Ordovician. It was featured in the Ordovician section of the BBC series Sea Monsters (a spin-off to the successful Walking with Dinosaurs) as the top predator, and also had a brief cameo in Walking with Monsters, bobbing in the water. The spelling "Cameraceras" appears in a popular companion book to the Walking With Dinosaurs series. The spelling that appears in scientific literature, however, is "Cameroceras".
The partial shell of one giant Cameroceras yielded an estimated total length of nearly 10 m. Soft tissue is not preserved in fossils of this animal, but examination of details of the shell, and comparison with modern cephalopods, suggest a living appearance such as those seen in books and on television. The overall form of the shell was very similar to that of the related genus Endoceras.
