Members of Camarophyllus, also known as Cuphophyllus, are distinguished from other members of the Hygrophoraceae by their white to pale orange to violaceous coloration and fully decurrent lamellae of their fruiting bodies and by their interwoven lamellar trama.
Camarophyllus was described by P. Kummer in 1871 and is used by some authorities such as Moser (see reference). The name Cuphophilus was defined by Marcel Bon in 1985 (see Index Fungorum and Bon's guide). However currently this group is not recognized as a genus under either name and so it constitutes only a sub-genus of Hygrocybe.
