[edit] Comments on User talk:CaliforniaAliBaba/Koryo saram
Not sure if you've noticed, but in case you haven't, I've made a couple of comments on User talk:CaliforniaAliBaba/Koryo saram. I've also edited/added a bit on the article itself. Hope you don't mind. Of course, please edit anything I've written that needs to be edited. --- Hong Qi Gong 03:01, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] An Shih Kao
Thanks for the heads-up on An Shih Kao. Trying to sort out what Mahayana texts An Shih Kao translated, knowing that some of these were related to the cult of Amitabha. Many conflicting sources on Internet, so I relied on ja Wiki for the moment. Regards PHG 15:30, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Chinese references
Often, we just want to reference the Chinese people collectively (without concern to ethnicity, location, or other status). This can be done by Chinese or Chinese being used. This is how such references had handled for people of other countries. Thanks. Hmains 04:17, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
- The problem here is that Chinese people is a disambiguation. cab 07:48, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Demographics of NK
(your edit) – Please see Wikipedia:Redirect#Don't fix links to redirects that aren't broken. Besides, it doesn't make much sense to link to Overseas Chinese for a peninsula sticking out of (/from?) China. Kind greetings, Wikipeditor 15:26, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Welcome back
Hey, you're back. I left a note on the Koryo Saram talk page asking if the page is ready to move to its own article space. I think it is. =)
Also, not sure if you're interested, but in case you are, I'm starting an article on Piracy in the Malacca Strait - User:HongQiGong/scratch. --- Hong Qi Gong 02:01, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Ethnic Chinese in Country X
Hey, after the endless discussions about Chinese Mongolians or Mongolian Chinese (or pick any other country). I think it is best for the clarification to change all the "Overseas Chinese"-pages into "Ethnic Chinese in Country X". Make something like the [Chinese Korean] page. At least it is a very clear page, so change the "Israeli Chinese"-page A little bit grammar though. If you say for example "Chinese Korean". The noun is "Korean" and the adjective is "Chinese". So this means an ethnic Chinese in Korean, but a lot of people are confused of that so let's move on ;). It's interesting to know it though ;) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Deadmaster (talk • contribs) 2006-09-05 15:27:35.
- You are right about the order of adjective and noun, but usage is still ambiguous. In "Chinese Korean", "Chinese" could be used as an adjective to describe ethnicity, or an adjective to describe citizenship. Same with "Korean". The more popular "Chinese American" and "American Chinese" is a good example of this. Both are common terms referring to the same thing - ethnic Chinese people with American citizenship. But one term uses "Chinese" as the adjective while the other uses "American" as the adjective. --- Hong Qi Gong 20:07, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Malaysian Chinese
I have started a vote on what the article should be called. Would you like to cast a vote? Andrew Yong 23:20, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] hello
justwant to say that the dispute at the other page is nothing personal. And I hope there's no hard feeling between us. __earth (Talk) 14:14, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
- Agree completely. Sorry if I got too worked up over the issue and offended you. cab 14:20, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Stitches
Thanks for your improvement to my disambig edits to Stitches - it makes more sense now. I noticed that Talk:Stitches redirected to Talk:Stitches (Australian band), so tried to fix it, but although it seems to have the correct redirect, i.e. to Talk:Stitch, it still actually redirects to Talk:Stitches (Australian band). I know the talk page of a redirect is probably not important, but wondered if the problem was because I'm doing something wrong - I'm pretty new to this! Any comments? Thanks - Windymilla 19:40, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Request for help
Well OK, How am I supposed to reply the messages you sent me? How do I write a message to anyone like you did to me? It would kind of help if that information was obvious, I wouldn't have been doing all the goofy stuff otherwise. How do I make a page for myself like the way you have yours? There's nothing in my mytalk page that allows me to do anything like you have yours set up here. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ph133710101 (talk • contribs) 22:40, 10 October 2006.

[edit] Islam in China
I would appreciate if you could help to keep the article out of vandalism. I reverted the Demographic section of the article back to an earlier version because it has referenced statistics from the CIA World Factbook as well as the US Department of State's International Religious Freedom Reports. Some users try to replace the figures from unknown Islamic websites in the past (check history), but I don't think it is very encyclopedic to replace official census with unknown and POV sources. There are also some claims (users such as Madman 0014 keep reverting them back), such as claiming Genghis Khan and the Mongol rulers of the Yuan Dynasty were Muslims, I'm sure you known these are not academically accepted theories nor are they mainstream, so I hope you watch-out for vandalisms such as that. Thanks, I hope you make good contributions to the article.--Balthazarduju 00:31, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks, I hadn't been watching closely cuz there's always ridiculous numbers of edits, so didn't notice that section had already been vandalised beyond the stuff that I removed. Will keep a closer eye in the future. cab 04:32, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks
Hi, just wanted to say thanks for all your hard work on Koryo-saram articles and other topics related to the ties between Korea and post-Soviet Asia. You're clearly a very serious contributor, and you would be most welcome at Wikipedia:WikiProject Korea, if you would care to join. Cheers, -- Visviva 11:43, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] On Howell Hu
You could clean the attack parts out of the article -- it provides substantial content on someone who appears to be possibly notable. If you need help with cleanup (and keeping the NPOV/attack parts out), I can help you find people to help out there, or if you think that an article is not merited, I suggest taking it to AfD -- it's not *clearly* a non-notable topic, and the attacks, while present, are just bits of an article that has a decent amount to say. --Improv 03:33, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
- I took a stab at cleaning it -- how's it look? --Improv 03:43, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
- Part of the difficulty was that I didn't understand the chinese word that the article used - I assumed it was a style of writing or genre rather than an epithet. This is one of the inherent difficulties in a communal encyclopedia and an international audience :) Take care --Improv 03:50, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Indonesian Chinese vs Chinese Indonesian
Hi, I'm afraid I disagree. Chinese Indonesian is the correct term in the English language. There has been plenty of debate about this, and its the reason why the Indonesian Chinese article got renamed to Chinese Indonesian. (MichaelJLowe 00:45, 11 November 2006 (UTC))
- I'm aware of the Malaysian page debate. The people voting for the term Malaysian Chinese could only assert that the term is more common in Malaysia; I didn't see anyone assert that it was grammatically correct in English language. (MichaelJLowe 01:11, 11 November 2006 (UTC))
-
- I don't want to get into debates about English grammar - I believe these issues have been adequately covered in the article talk pages. (MichaelJLowe 01:32, 11 November 2006 (UTC))
