Callcredit Limited is a consumer credit reference agency. Callcredit was created by Skipton Building Society, one of the UK’s largest building societies and a recognised force in the financial services arena. Callcredit is part of the Skipton Information Group which consists of three Skipton owned companies operating within the information/IT arena; Callcredit – a provider of credit reference services, EuroDirect – specialists in data modelling and data-based solutions, and GMAP Consulting – a market analysis company and global provider of business decision-making solutions.
Callcredit supplies information to lenders and other organisations, to enable them to establish an individual's credit history and confirm any addresses given. Callcredit aims to provide lenders with the most up to date and accurate information, to assist in the decision making process, allowing informed decisions to aid responsible lending.
Callcredit’s client base includes many of the UK’s leading banks, building societies, finance houses, mail order, telecoms and utility companies. These typically use Callcredit’s services to support applications for credit cards, mortgage, personal loan and consumer rental accounts.
Rumours of an imminent take-over by US credit reference agency TransUnion were rife within the UK credit industry within 2006. TransUnion currently has a very low market presence in the UK.
Like its main competitors, Experian and Equifax, Callcredit also markets credit reports directly to consumers.
