Callan Mulvey

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Callan Francis Mulvey (born February 24 , 1975 in Auckland, New Zealand) is an Australian actor. He is part Sri Lankan.

Mulvey is best known for his popular role as Bogdan Drazic on the popular Australian teen drama Heartbreak High and was one of the few cast members that wasn't Australian-born. Mulvey has said Drazic has a lot of Callan in him: "Besides the skating Cal has the mischievous muck around side too. Draz started out as Hartley's self appointed bad boy; being from the wrong side of the tracks, his family has never given much personal support or encouraged him with his education. Cal thinks Drazic is interesting as a character because he is so complex. You never know what he's going to do or how he's going to react to a given situation."

Mulvey first came to Australia at age 8 and hated the hot summers. Now he loves the temperature and lying on the beach. When he was little, he wanted to grow up to be everything from a chef to a fireman, but his first paying job was at McDonald's, behind the counter.

After Heartbreak High ended, he became a professional skater. Mulvey found a sponsor and traveled the USA and Australia for demonstrations. In the USA, he also got his eyebrow pierced, which seems to interest people quite much. Cal said, "I guess I needed to bust out a bit and try to be different!" He also started doing stunt doubling work, and ended up in an agency which sent him to an audition for Heartbreak about two years later. There he found what he really wants to do: act. And as Drazic he can combine both his passions, blading and acting.

In his very rare free time, Callan still loves to skate. He hates anything that's not real. He enjoys about every sport, but especially snowboarding and skateboarding, and I tries to spend as much time with his family as he can.

He dated his Heartbreak High co-star Lara Cox (Anita Scheppers) from 1997 to 2000 (now it's rumoured they are back together).

After being seriously injured in a car accident near Byron Bay in NSW on New Year's Eve, 2003, he's finally returning to series TV as the violent Johnny Cooper on Home And Away. Johnny, the leader of a gang of violent surfers, has moved to the Bay in search of his brother, Rocco (Ian Meadows), who's recently been befriended by Sally (Kate Ritchie).

Last seen in the Aussie movie Thunderstruck, Callan all but disappeared from the public eye following the accident. According to sources, a court case is pending and he's not permitted to talk in depth about it, but it's believed his injuries were life-threatening. It looks as though Callan has made a good recovery.
