State Route 7 is a state highway in the U.S. state of California, running from the U.S.-Mexico border east of Calexico north to Interstate 8. Its present alignment was defined in 1990. The full route is part of the California Freeway and Expressway System, and is built to expressway standards.
[edit] History
From the 1964 renumbering until 1984, SR 7 ran from San Pedro (Long Beach after 1964) north to Pasadena on the Long Beach Freeway. This had been State Route 15 from 1951 to 1964, renumbered to avoid a conflict with Interstate 15. It became Interstate 710 in 1984. The Harbor Freeway replaced the SR 11 with Interstate 110 in 1981. There is a 3-year separation between posting those two interstate signs.
