State Route 223 is a state highway located in Kern County, California, USA. It runs from Interstate 5 to Route 99 south of Bakersfield. From there, it also runs to Route 58 via the city of Arvin. Note, however, that the legislative definition as of 2005 used these words:
523. Route 223 is from: (a) Route 5 to Route 99 south of Greenfield. (b) Route 99 south of Greenfield to Route 58.
The legal definition states that Route 223 ends in "Greenfield", which should not be confused with the Greenfield in Monterey County. Before Caltrans started posting exit numbers, the Union Avenue exit off CA-99 was signed as Greenfield. The Kern County unincorporated area of Greenfield is near the intersection of Union Ave (former US-99 and State Route 204) and CA-223.
