Caledon (2001 population 50,595, est. 58,500 in 2006) is a town in the Regional Municipality of Peel in the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario, Canada. In terms of land use, Caledon is somewhat urban, though it is primarily rural in nature. Many of Toronto's wealthiest citizens own large country estates in the area, among them many members of the Eaton Family, Norman Jewison and the inventors of the board game Trivial Pursuit. It consists of an amalgamation of a number of urban areas, villages, and hamlets; its major urban centre with typified surbuban housing mixed with old town charm is Bolton, located on its eastern side adjacent to York Region.

Caledon is one of three municipalities of Peel Region. The town is located just north of the city of Brampton.

[edit] Transportation

The town currently has no government-supported public transit system. However, growing population had prompted a resident to start a private-owned transit company named Métis Transit Limited that started service in January 2006. As of October 2006, this service is no longer in operation.

Accessible transit services are provided by Caledon Community Services Transportation and Transhelp (run by Peel Region). GO Transit operates a bus terminal in Bolton, Ontario and stop in Caledon.

The highways in the municipality are:

  • Mississauga Road or Regional Road #1
  • Airport Road or Regional Road # 7
  • Hurontario Street or Regional Road # 10 (formerly provincial highway 10)
  • Regional Road 50 (formerly known as highway 50)
