Caleb H. Baumes

Caleb Howard Baumes (March 31, 1863, Bethlehem, New York–September 25, 1937, near Hudson, New York) was a member of the New York state senate 27th District. Lawyer Baumes was at one time a member of New York state assembly from Orange County 1st District and a delegate to New York state constitutional convention 25th District.
A Republican, Baumes championed a 1926 law mandating life imprisonment for four-time felony offenders, the Baumes law. He married in 1883 and had two sons. He failed in a bid to become Lieutenant Governor of New York in 1930 and resumed private law practice. He died on board a train.
