Calala, New South Wales
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Calala, is a small suburb (pop. 2500) of the Northern New South Wales city of Tamworth, administered by Tamworth Regional Council. The area is 4.5km, from the CBD of Tamworth and is connected to the city by Calala Lane, the main road, which often becomes flooded in times of heavy rain, usually isolating the residents from the rest of the city.
Calala has a small shopping centre consisting of a bottle shop, general store and hair salon. The Calala Tavern is a local pub where many residents enjoy a drink. As of late 2005, construction began on a small commercial and residential complex including a small supermarket (which opened in August 2006) and a retirement village. Calala is also the suburb where the school, Carinya Christian School (Tamworth), is located.
Further along Calala Lane past Calala is Farrer Memorial High School, and the New South Wales Department of Agriculture has a plant research institute just off the Lane.
