James Calvin Cunningham, III (born 6 August 1973) is a Democratic politician in the United States, and a former member of the North Carolina General Assembly.
Cunningham was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and grew up in Lexington, North Carolina; he graduated from Forsyth Country Day School in 1991 and earned degrees in philosophy and political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1996. Cunningham then pursued graduate study in public policy and public administration from the London School of Economics in 1997 and from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of law. Cunningham earned his law degree in 1999 and entered private practice. Cunningham is also a Captain in the United States Army Reserve. He is married to Elizabeth Kolb Cunningham; they have two children, Caroline ("Caroline") Evans Cunningham and William ("Will") Henry Cunningham.
