This article is a little all over the place, could use an expert to tidy it up. zafiroblue05 | Talk 02:13, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] contradiction

It seems to me from reading the Geniza article and this one, that these documents were not intended to be exhumed and studied, much less published. Is there an explanation of how this happened? ... aa:talk 02:15, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

How what happened? How the genizah was found? Dfass 04:15, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
Well, not so much found, but opened, studied, published, etc. Do I misunderstand the purpose of the device? ... aa:talk 23:18, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
A geniza is just a place (not a device) where old documents are stored, like a synagogue attic or a basement. (Jewish religious documents are not put out in the garbage; out of respect, they are stored and sometimes buried. So the geniza is just such a storage place.) A geniza is "discovered" or "found" when someone decides to look through it and see whether there's anything interesting in there. However, I agree that the article needs more about the history of this particular genizah. I will see if I can add something. Dfass 00:05, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
